Workshops: All workshops include knowledge and awareness of our bodies during various points in our lives, various creative self expression activities, basic yoga poses and meditation techniques.

Modern Healthy Women: A beautiful workshop designed for young women who wish to understand their bodies and female energies more. It is designed to empower young women to take responsibility for their health; physically, emotionally and spiritually.   

Conscious Maternity: This workshop offers an opportunity to go deeper into many of the subjects offered on this web site. It also allows for an opportunity for inner awareness and building community. Both new and experienced mothers are welcome.

Childbirth Education: Designed specifically for pregnant women in their third trimester. This workshop details the childbirth experience from anatomy and physiology to breathing and relaxation techniques; empowering women in their natural, instinctual capacity to give birth. A wonderful opportunity to optimize your childbirth experience.

Neonatal Resuscitation: This course is the neonatal resuscitation course designed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and is designed for students and professionals in the fields of obstetrics and midwifery. Doulas are also welcome to participate in this course. Given in both English and Spanish.

Future Goals and Projects:

Familia Moderna y Consciente: A High school and University level course given to inspire conscious choices and healthy families.

Doula Association of Cusco: Formation of a network of Certified Doulas to inspire awareness, educated choice and supportive care for pregnant, birthing and postpartum women.

Lactation Consultants of Cusco: A network of well educated, supportive and enthusiastic women who can support healthy lactation and mother/baby bonding.

Hospital Play Rooms for Pediatric Wards: Inspired by the beautiful, therapeutic play rooms at the Presbyterian Hospital in Alb. New Mexico, Conscious Maternity International hopes to provide supplies, training and staff for an ongoing creative space for pediatric patients in the two main hospitals of Cusco.

Community Outreach:
With the support and approval of local organizations, Conscious Maternity International hopes to offer university courses on childbirth education, women’s health and labor support techniques. We also hope to create a program for traditional midwives in rural areas where knowledge can be shared and birth supplies provided. More detail on these programs will be provided as they develop. Study Opportunities:

Midwifery Assistant: With a group of three or more students we will introduce you to the knowledge and skills needed to assist a practicing midwife in a home or birth center environment.  For Peruvian residents this course will span over a period of six months. Arrangements can be made for those looking for a more intensive program.

Doula Training: Doula training workshops will be held periodically based on the number of people dedicated to becoming Doulas. For those with no previous knowledge or experience, the course will last three months and will include both intensive study and practicum. Special arrangements can be made for doulas who come with a background of study and who wish to realize their practicum.

Childbirth Education Instructor Course: Learn to empower women in their natural process of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood.

Anyone or any group of people wishing to complete a practicum in their area of study, whether it be as a doula, midwife or nurse midwife, need only to write us a letter. We have contacts with local clinics and hospitals in the Cusco area and will gladly help organize an intensive study for you. Previous experience and other pre-requisites may apply. The founder is a legal preceptor in the State of Florida and New Mexico. Details will be worked out on an individual basis. Please contact us if you are interested.

Past Activities:

Childbirth Education Workshops at Lorena Hospital. We covered the Seven Chakras as Energy Centers and their relationship to Health and Healing; breathing, massage, exercises and reflexology for personal health and the pregnant and birthing mother; childbirth from the mother's perspective and a beautiful yoga class with the obstetras and patients, ending the workshop with waterbirth videos.

This workshop focused on childbirth from the mother's perspective, breathing, movement and empowering the women to view and understand birth as a natural process. Included were A&P of the birthing process, waterbirth videos and a variety of childbirth exercises, visualizations and meditations.

Doula Training: In Jan 2009 a group of 22 women from Canada and the US, came for a Doula and Midwifery month long intensive. This group was directed by Whapio Diane Bartlett of The Matrona, with internship and skills classes organized by Sunday Paucar of Conscious Maternity International.

Doula Training: March, 2010 in Santiago, Chile. A group of 18 women and one dedicated husband joined us for a 10 day intensive doula course given by Sunday Paucar of Conscious Maternity International. See Doula page for more info.
